About Me

A smiling man with curly brown hair and a beard, wearing a white t-shirt, looking at the camera with a lively background.

I am a gentle soul, a musician, a friend, and a healer. I enjoy connecting with people, creating art, and making coffee or tea for my friends.

I am an alum of The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, where I studied psychodynamic psychotherapy, with a focus on the treatment of trauma and abuse. My specific therapeutic approach is rooted in psychoanalytic object relations theory.

I work with adults recovering from various forms of trauma and abuse, and am particularly passionate about helping individuals and couples navigate the impact of sexual abuse in their lives.

The scope of my work is inclusive to all practices of religion, non-faith, gender expression, and sexual orientation.

My name is Matt Henson.

My Approach

Psychodynamic therapy is a type of therapy that explores how the unconscious affects daily functioning. Unconscious processes are the hidden frameworks that determine our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world around us. These frameworks are formed by early childhood experiences, often beginning to organize before we are even born. Painful emotional experiences are internalized and tend to replicate themselves throughout our lives.

In psychodynamic therapy, the patient and the clinician co-construct a therapeutic relationship strong enough to explore the pain stored in the unconscious. Together, we learn to bear the weight of this pain, allowing you to move toward healing with autonomy and intention.
